Myanmar in the age of climate change / Documentary screening and panel discussion
On the occasion of World Environment Day (5th of June every year), the Institut français de Birmanie (French Institute in Myanmar) is organizing a series of events dedicated to climate change and the environment in order to raise awareness about environmental issues.
“Myanmar in the age of climate change” will be the subject of the third and last event of this series. Do you know that Myanmar is the second-most impacted country in the world due to extreme weather events, and one of the most vulnerable country to the effects of climate change? Come and find out in what ways Myanmar is being affected by climate change and what needs to be done to adapt and mitigate those effects.
After the screening of the 20-minute documentary “Warmer days: Myanmar in the age of climate change” co-produced by the European-funded Myanmar Climate Change Alliance and the Yangon Film School, we will welcome experts on the topic from international organizations and civil society organizations to discuss about climate change in Myanmar.
The panel will be made of:
– Shashank Mishra, Chief Technical Advisor, Myanmar Climate Change Alliance
– Dr. Thiri Dawei Aung, Central Executive Committee member, MERN (Myanmar Environmental Rehabilitation-conservation Network)
– Xavier Bouan, Senior Technical Advisor in priority agro-ecosytems of Myanmar at the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations)
The discussion will be moderated by Eric Glover, journalist and consultant on Communication & Environment.
The discussion will be in English and Myanmar language with consecutive interpretation.
This event is brought to you by the Institut Français de Birmanie (French Institute in Myanmar) with the support of the Myanmar Climate Change Alliance.
