DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française) and DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) are official language certifications awarded by the French Ministry of Education to certify proficiency in French as a foreign language.
This official diploma, designed for primary school children (ages 6-13), validates initial French skills. Featuring age-appropriate topics and a modified format, the DELF Prim offers a positive, confidence-building introduction to international certification from the French Ministry of National Education.
Targeted at secondary school pupils (ages 13-16), this version maintains the international recognition of the standard DELF but uses content tailored to adolescent interests and academic life. It is an invaluable certification for students planning future study or exchange programmes.
The standard diploma for adults and young adults (17+) seeking official certification of their French proficiency. Widely accepted globally, the DELF Tout Public is essential for university enrolment, demonstrating professional competency, or supporting immigration and French citizenship applications.
The Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française certifies the highest levels of proficiency (C1 and C2). The DALF demonstrates a mastery of the language, grants autonomy in professional and academic settings, and provides exemption from language entrance exams for French universities.
